Bugün 8 Mart – Dünya Kadınlar Günü. Aynı zamanda WordPress’in Weekly Photo Challenge’ında da konu “Shadow (Gölge)”.
Women are not just shadows of men: Kadınlar erkeklerin gölgesi değildir.
ENGLISH translation: Today’s 8th March – World Women’s Day and the theme of the “Weekly photo challenge” on WordPress is “Shadow”. So I set thinking how I could merge the two into one single photo and eventually the idea suddenly popped in my mind.
Women are not just shadows of men: Unfortunately women are suffering maybe the most difficult times in todays so-called modern Turkey. Because they are:
– beaten up by their husbands
– being murdered
– being submitted to honour killings
– being raped
– deprived from education rights
– sexually harassed
– discriminated
and they are condemned to stay under the shadow of men just because they are Women. Therefore today’s the day to cry out our sensitivities to the world. Congratulations to all the Women on the World Women’s Day. To a lightful tomorrow!
Notes about the photo: The title and the text belong to me :). The photograph is certainly photo-touched by photoshop. In the original, the shadow was of the man walking. I removed the shadow and replaced it with a silhouette of a woman. It looked more like a poster after putting the text. But whatever :)… so be it like this, this week :)

you inspired me to write an article with the title MATRIMONIAL CLIMAX, translated into 24 languages, please control, if that TURKISH translation is O.K. …

Posted by frizztext | 08/03/2011, 13:34Great pic, frizztext. I have never heard of the expression “tomatoes on the eyes” but it makes perfect sense when it is explained. And yes, I think it is a worldwide condition that women traditionally earn less money than men for performing the same job.
Posted by Sandra Bell Kirchman | 08/03/2011, 19:41Love what you did to that picture.
Sadly, those things go on in every society, though perhaps less often in some. But if it happens to even one woman, it’s one too many.
Excellent post.
